THE Bureau of Treasury (BTr) announced that it was able to register a P4.9 billion budget surplus for the month of April.
In an announcement, the BTr said this was due to the fast year-over-year revenue collection growth of about 19.19 percent.
Meanwhile, a marginal increase in public expenditures at 1.98 percent was also registered.
The BTr said deficit from January to April may reach P311.9 billion, but this is much lower than the 14.76 percent or by about P54 billion compared to the budget deficit recorded in the same period last year.
Meanwhile, in terms of tax collections last April, the BTr said it reached almost 13 percent, while non-tax revenues increased by 103 percent.
In a report by the BTr, the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) registered P240 billion in gross collections for the month of April.
On the other hand, the Bureau of Customs (BOC) maintained its growth momentum after it registered P65.7 billion last month. Among the reasons mentioned were proper valuation, intensified campaign against illegal importations and compliance of traders to the Customs Law.
The Bureau of Treasury, meanwhile, registered a P25.7 billion revenue collection last April, which was double compared to only P9 billion it collected in the same period in 2021.
