CAMP CAPINPIN, Rizal – Soldiers from the Philippine Army’s 2nd Infantry Division (2ID) clashed with members of the New People’s Army (NPA) on the morning of November 30, at the boundary of Barangays Pagasa and Dumagmang in Labo, Camarines Norte.
According to the 201st Infantry Brigade, the encounter occurred while troops were conducting routine security operations in response to reports from residents regarding the presence of armed groups in the area.
The firefight erupted at approximately 7:43 AM when the insurgents fired upon the approaching soldiers. The skirmish lasted for about 25 minutes before the NPA fighters retreated, reportedly carrying an undetermined number of wounded comrades.
No casualties were reported on the government side.
The troops recovered an M16 rifle, a magazine loaded with 16 rounds of ammunition, two cellular phones, personal belongings, food supplies, and several subversive documents.
In a separate operation a day earlier, 2ID forces encountered NPA rebels in Famy, Laguna, resulting in the death of a female insurgent and the recovery of a short firearm.
Maj. Gen. Cerilo Balaoro Jr., 2ID Commander, attributed the recent successes to the continuous support and cooperation of local residents.
“The series of encounters highlights the declining influence of terrorist remnants in Southern Tagalog and nearby areas under the jurisdiction of the 2ID,” Balaoro said.
He commended the troops for their dedication to protecting the people and lauded the local communities for their active role in fostering peace.
“These victories reflect the steadfast commitment of our soldiers and the unwavering support of the people in the fight against insurgency,” he added.
The military reiterated its call for the remaining NPA members to surrender and reintegrate into society, emphasizing the government’s ongoing efforts to achieve lasting peace and development.
