Foundever Philippines Champions Sustainability with Mangrove Planting and Coastal Clean-Up in Batangas

As climate change continues to threaten the Philippines’ coastal areas with rising sea levels and shoreline erosion, Foundever® in the Philippines has stepped up its commitment to sustainability with an initiative that combines environmental action and community partnership.

On the southern coast of Batangas, 63 associates from Foundever joined forces with local fisherfolk to take part in a mangrove tree planting and coastal clean-up at the Lagadlarin Mangrove Forest, one of the last well-preserved mangrove ecosystems in Southern Luzon. The activity was held in observance of the National Day for the Conservation of the Mangrove Ecosystem on July 26.

The project resulted in the planting of 100 mangrove seedlings and the removal of waste from the coastal area, directly contributing to the restoration of a habitat that is essential to marine life and the livelihood of fishing communities. Foundever carried out the initiative in partnership with the Samahan ng Maliliit na Mangingisda sa Pangangalaga ng Kalikasan sa Barangay Lagadlarin (SMMPKBL) Inc., a community-based group dedicated to protecting Batangas’ coastal and marine environment.

“By helping restore this mangrove forest, we are not just planting trees; we are helping safeguard the ecological future of the community. Mangroves protect coastlines from storm surges, serve as nurseries for fish, and support the livelihoods of the fisherfolk who call this place home. It’s a shared responsibility we proudly embrace,” according to Cholo Sunico, Director for People Experience and Culture at Foundever in the Philippines.

Mangrove forests like Lagadlarin serve as natural barriers against coastal erosion and flooding while reducing carbon emissions and supporting biodiversity. The ecosystem provides a safe breeding ground for fish, crabs, and shellfish that sustain the local economy. Without such natural defenses, coastal communities face heightened risks from stronger storms and the long-term effects of climate change.

For Foundever, the effort is part of its broader vision of corporate social responsibility. “Partnerships like this show how business and community can come together to create long-term, meaningful impact. Our associates are proud to serve not just our clients, but also the land and people in the communities where we operate,” said John Henry Valencia, Director for Human Resources Business Partners at Foundever in the Philippines.

The company’s initiative highlighted the importance of collaborative efforts between the private sector and local communities in building resilience against climate threats. By fostering ecological stewardship, Foundever continues to align its corporate values with sustainable development goals, creating positive impact beyond business operations.
