Finding ways to survive

Chops To Go is a food brand that provides delicious bite-size chicken chops, potato chips, juicy and crunchy fish chips, their new jumbo chicken, and of course delicious and authentic milk tea drinks.

But just like any business in the Philippines, Chops To Go was not spared of the impact of the pandemic so she made a mad dash of finding ways to survive the COVID-19’s onslaught.

“We, well no one, really expected this pandemic to happen. We were worried about the status of Chops To Go, and of course other businesses that are members of AFFI. We needed to find ways to survive,” says Joyce Co Yu, Chops To Go owner, who started with her True Blends brand of authentic milk tea.

Yu was referring to the Association of Filipino Franchisers, Inc. or AFFI, an organization of the country’s franchisers. As for Chops To Go, she said that many of its stores, mostly mall-based, were forced to stop operations because of the imposition of community quarantines that essentially prevented people from going out of their houses except for essential reasons.

But Yu was adamant, resilient even. That’s why she and business partner Homer So decided to experiment on a scheme by partnering with one of her many franchisees to put up her SM City North EDSA branch just this October. It was business as usual, even if you can practically count the number of people present at the mall’s food court. It’s a Saturday lunch time, which is normally packed with people during pre-pandemic days.

If there’s one thing that Yu, a registered nurse, is proud about, it’s about her determination to pull it through.

“I guess I’m not alone on this one. Businesses, particularly MSMEs, are the hardest hit. We had to find ways to survive, not just by not being infected by COVID-19 but also to keep our businesses afloat in these most trying times,” Yu added.

We all believe, she pointed out, that one day, everything will slowly go back to what it once was. “Maybe not overnight but we know everything will change for the better, with God’s help.”

Chops to Go started as a part of the menu of Trueblends Tea and Coffee along with other breakfast and lunch fare served all day for students and faculty at the National University in Manila. Chicken Chops are made from chicken breasts coated with breading and deep fried to a crisp.

Thus, Chops-To-Go was created together with other dishes for busy individuals without sacrificing the taste and quality of the dish. Paired together with their Original House Blend Iced Tea, expect your to-go meals to be even better.

Chops To Go has branches at SM North EDSA, SM Manila, SM San Lazaro, SM Bicutan and SM Megamall. Next week, another Chops To Go branch will open at SM Southmall.
