CAMARINES Sur Rep. Luis Raymund Villafuerte has confirmed that his father, Luis Villafuerte Sr., a former governor and congressman of the same province, has died at the age of 86.

The younger Villafuerte took it to Facebook to announce the death of the late public servant which he described as the most admired leader of the country and the “Political of Kingpin of the Bicol Region.”

“It is with great pain and sadness that I announce the demise of a loved and dear one, my father, Luis R. Villafuerte Sr., one of the most Illustrious political leaders of our country,” he wrote atop his caption.

According to the younger Villafuerte, his father passed away on September 8, 2021 around 12:35 a.m. at St. Luke’s Medical Center, Bonifacio Global City, Taguig.

He further expressed his honor and pleasure to have an eminent father, stressing the deeds he left as a vestige for the people of his jurisdiction.

Highly respected by many for his intellectual prowess, creative thinking and out of the box ideas on anything. He was not only my mentor and idol but also to many. He continues to be our inspiration as he always motivated us to be the best on whatever we do. Even if you thought you have achieved the best, he would express that there is room for improvement,” the younger Villafuerte said.

He moreover recalled how his father loved serving which was proved when the late governor prayed for the country even during his last breath.

He was a true champion of good causes and a fighter! But more than being a fighter; he truly loved serving our people and nation. In fact when my sister Mylene was with him praying in his last few moments, my Father said, ‘I pray for the Nation, Lord!”, when my sister asked if there was anything else he wanted to pray for, he reiterated, “just pray for this nation.”

The senior Villafuerte has served for over 40 years as a public servant and duly recognized as the longest serving governor of Camarines Sur who has established his name and led for 15 years. He also served as the province’s congressman in 2004 until 2013.

Prior to his stint as a public servant, the elder Villafuerte took his career as a lawyer and a founding partner of the prestigious law firm identified as Villafuerte, Zamora and Associates.
