PHILIPPINE National Police (PNP) Officer-in-Charge Lt. Gen. Vicente Danao Jr. ordered the PNP Highway Patrol Group (HPG) to strictly enforce restrictions on unauthorized use of emergency devices such as the “wang-wang” and blinkers.

According to PNP Director for Operations Police Maj. Gen. Valeriano de Leon, the order of Danao was in accordance with the law to restrict private vehicles from the unauthorized use of “wang-wang” and other emergency devices.

De Leon explained that based on Presidential Decree No. 96 signed by former President Ferdinand Marcos, Sr., these emergency devices are for the exclusive use of the official vehicles of the Armed Forces of the Philippines, National Bureau of Investigation, Land Transportation Office, Philippine National Police, Bureau of Fire Protection and ambulances.

Private vehicle owners were also advised to remove as early as now these emergency devices from their vehicles before they are caught and charged in court.

The official added that even owners of shops that sell and install emergency devices will also be held responsible.
