Duterte believes missing “sabungeros” may already be dead

PRESIDENT Rodrigo Duterte believes that the more than 30 missing “sabungeros” or cockfight enthusiasts are already dead.

There is a syndicate inside the cockpit arena, Duterte said during his visit to Palo, Leyte yesterday.

He thinks it is not far-fetched that the missing cockfight enthusiasts may have done something to sabotage cockfights through game fixing.

He said the common practice is by soaking the rooster for it to catch a cold and get sick so that it becomes weak to ensure that it will lose during fight day.

Most likely, the president said, that the syndicate got hold of this practice by the “sabungeros” that placed their lives in danger.

It may also be possible that the cockfight enthusiasts placed their bets on either underdogs or favorites, depending on the agreement or transaction.

The president said the resolution of the case is now in the hands of law enforcement authorities and get to the bottom of this incident.

Malacanang earlier gave the Philippine National Police and the National Bureau of Investigation 30 days to finish their investigation on the missing “sabungeros” and submit the results to the Office of the President.
