DPWH Zambales 2nd DEO Champions Women Empowerment in National Women’s Month Celebration

Castillejos, Zambales – A sea of purple, symbolizing solidarity and the global fight for gender equality, set a powerful tone as the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) – Zambales 2nd District Engineering Office (DEO) launched its month-long celebration of National Women’s Month (NWM).

The celebration kicked off with a vibrant parade, where officials and employees donned purple shirts and proudly carried this year’s theme, “Babae sa Lahat ng Sektor, Aangat ang Bukas sa Bagong Pilipinas.” The message underscores the critical role of women across all sectors, including infrastructure and public service.

In his keynote address, District Engineer Rey Lerio reaffirmed DPWH’s commitment to an inclusive workplace where women are empowered to thrive.
“At DPWH, we do more than construct roads and bridges—we build respect, equality, and empowerment,” Lerio said. “This National Women’s Month, we honor the women shaping our nation and ensure they are provided with opportunities and the recognition they deserve. When women rise, we all rise.”

OIC–Assistant District Engineer Jonathan Labio echoed this commitment, emphasizing the importance of creating safe and supportive environments for women to succeed.
“Women flourish when given spaces where they feel safe, supported, and empowered. By uplifting and championing women, we foster progress for everyone,” Labio added.

As part of the festivities, the DEO organized a volleyball tournament featuring four teams composed of female personnel, promoting camaraderie, teamwork, and wellness. Additionally, a pampering session was held to encourage self-care and to celebrate the valuable contributions of women to the office and the wider community.

Beyond symbolic gestures, the DEO has lined up a series of activities for the duration of NWM, all designed to advance gender equality, foster women’s professional growth, and strengthen its ongoing commitment to inclusive development.
