DOH logs new high in daily COVID-19 cases

THE Department of Health (DOH) recorded a total of 11,021 new COVID-19 cases today, a new high since April, and slightly higher than yesterday’s 10,623 total, according to the latest DOH COVID-19 Case Bulletin issued today, August 7, 2021.

This brings the total number of COVID-19 infections in the country at 1,649,341, while active cases rose again to 76,063 from yesterday’s 74,297 count. Active cases or patients are those undergoing treatment in government hospitals and temporary quarantine facilities.

A total of 162 COVID-19 deaths were registered today, lower than yesterday’s total of 247 deaths. The total number of COVID-19 fatalities is now at 28,835.

The DOH also logged 9,194 new recoveries from the COVID-19 disease today, almost three times higher than the 3,127 recoveries posted yesterday.

Currently, there are now 1,544,443 individuals listed as total recoveries.

Meanwhile, positivity rate was at another high of 19.1 percent with 56,636 people who were tested.

Majority, or 96 percent of the cases, are mild and asymptomatic.

A total of 15 duplicates were removed from the total case count, of which 14 were recoveries.

Add to that were 10 cases found to have tested negative and have also been removed from the total case count since they were declared as recoveries.

Aside from that, there were also eight cases earlier tagged as recoveries have been validated to be active cases, while 94 cases earlier tagged as recoveries were reclassified as deaths upon final validation.

All laboratories were operational on August 5, 2021 while three laboratories were not able to submit their data to the COVID-19 Document Repository System (CDRS). Based on data in the last 14 days, the three n on-reporting laboratories contributed, on average, 0.3 percent of samples tested and 0.3 percent of positive individuals.

The agency continues to remind the public to ensure their safety and to strictly observe safety protocols and to have themselves vaccinated as soon as possible. The DOH also reiterates that the safety of the country is everyone’s responsibility, and that by helping each other, the country will overcome this COVID-19 pandemic.
