DOH logs 3,574 new COVID-19 infections today, the lowest this year

THE Department of Health (DOH) logged 3,574 new cases today, down by almost half of yesterday’s 6,835 based on the DOH COVID-19 Case Bulletin issued today, February 8, 2022.

This is the lowest number of new COVID-19 cases in a day recorded this year since January 1, 2022 when the DOH logged only 3,617 cases.

This brings the overall number of COVID-19 infections in the country to 3,619,633 cases.

Active cases, on the other hand, went down significantly to 105,550 today from yesterday’s 116,720. Active cases are patients undergoing treatment in government hospitals and temporary quarantine facilities.

Recoveries from COVID-19 today, however, was down to 14,644 cases from yesterday’s 16,330 count, pushing overall COVID-19 recoveries in the country to 3,459,462 cases.

Meanwhile, COVID-19 fatalities today went up to 83 compared to yesterday’s 12, pushing the total COVID-19 deaths to 54,621.

Positivity rate today was down to 16.3 percent from yesterday’s 19.1 percent with 23,754 people tested.

Also, 95.6 percent of the cases were mild and asymptomatic, the DOH bulletin noted.

A total of 328 duplicates were removed from the total case count, with 276 counted as recoveries.

There were also 35 cases tagged earlier as recoveries but were reclassified as deaths upon final validation.

All laboratories were operational on February 6, 2022, but six laboratories were not able to submit their data to the COVID-19 Document Repository System (CDRS). According to data in the last 14 days, the six laboratories contribute, on average, 2.1 percent of samples tested and 3.0 percent of positive individuals.

The DOH also wishes to note that the reported numbers and positivity rate logged today were lower since these are Sunday laboratory outputs, which traditionally have the lowest outputs per week.

The agency continues to remind the public not to become complacent and continue to be vigilant against the threat of COVID-19 and make it a habit to follow the minimum public health standards and to always wear face masks, and also face shields whenever necessary, maintain physical distancing and washing of hands. The DOH also reiterates that the safety of the country is everyone’s responsibility, and that by helping each other, the country will overcome this COVID-19 pandemic.
