MALOLOS CITY, Bulacan – The Department of Health (DOH) acknowledged the efforts, support and contribution of the Bulacan Provincial Government to the polio outbreak response in Central Luzon during its wide coverage of the provinces’ “Sabayang Patak Kontra Polio” campaign amid the pandemic.

According to the Provincial Health Office, a total of 316,566 Bulakenyo children were given polio vaccine in round 1 immunization which started in July 20 to August 16, 2020; while 330,706 were vaccinated in Round 2 conducted from September 14 to 27, 2020.

Governor Daniel Fernando attributed the campaign’s success to the Provincial Government’s prompt action including health education and promotion, solidarity with private pedia organizations, and the tireless service of health workers.

“In the midst of the pandemic, we see the importance of the vaccine. We do not yet have a case of polio here in our province so we should prepare for it. We have taken steps to prevent and protect the entire province against this disease,” said the governor.

He also stressed that the oral vaccine is free, safe, and proven effective against polio.

Polio is an infectious disease that can cause paralysis and eventually leads to death. It usually affects children five years of age and younger.
