THE Philippine National Police (PNP) chief ordered a deeper probe of the death of Filipino painter and artist Bree Jonson in La Union last weekend.
PNP Chief Police General Guillermo ordered PBGen Emmanuel Peralta, Regional Director of Police Regional Office 1 (PRO1) to look at all possible leads and angles that will shed light on Jonson’s death as the family wanted to know the truth behind her death.
Bree is a 30-year-old Filipino contemporary artist. She graduated with an industrial engineering degree at Ateneo De Manila University and pursued fine art studies at the University of the Philippines Diliman.
Initial investigation reported that Jonson’s body was found at Floatsam Jetsom Resort in San Juan, La Union, on September 18. Her boyfriend, Julian Ongpin, stated to the local police that the case was a suicide.
PGen Eleazar said Julian Ongpin was already charged with an illegal drugs case after Ongpin tested positive during a drug test and 12.6 grams of cocaine were seized in their rented room by responding local police.
The confiscated drugs was already the basis of the filing of a case against Ongpin. However, the Provincial Prosecutor’s Office ordered to free Ongpin while the investigation is ongoing.
“Hinihintay lamang ng inyong PNP ang pagsasagawa at ang resulta ng autopsy sa mga labi ni Binibining Jonson upang malaman kung may karagdagang kaso na isasampa laban sa kanyang kasintahan,” mentioned by PGen Eleazar.
He also added that the investigation is proof that the PNP applies the law without fear and favor, that even the rich or poor will be charged, that the law will be fairly implemented. “It is not just the honor and reputation of the PNP that is at stake here but also the trust of the Filipinos on the basic but important concept of rule of law.”
He lauded the quick response and fast action of the local PNP personnel on the case.
The PNP chief also extended his condolences to the bereaved family of Jonson. He said that, as a parent, it is hard to accept Jonson’s death but through the in-depth investigation, they will be able to shed light on what really happened to Jonson.
