Dashcam footage key in the capture of former soldier in the killing of a Palawan lawyer

CAMP VICENTE LIM, CALAMBA CITY, Laguna – THE slaying of a lawyer in Palawan would not have solved the case if were not for the dashcam footage that captures the horrifying scene.

This after one of the suspects in the ambushed slaying of 35-year-old Eric Jay Magcamit fell into the hands of the police on Tuesday morning, November 24.

According to Palawan Provincial Police Office (PPPO) Director Col. Nolasco Torre III, suspect identified as Jazer Rey Del Rosario, 38, was subdued by operatives of the Special Investigation Task Force (SITF) “Magcamit” on Sunday night, November 23, at his hideout in Barangay Alfonso XIII, in Quezon, Palawan.

Del Rosario was a former member of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) who went Awol and became a gun-for-hire, involved in a series of murder in the area.

It was learned that Del Rosario is also an employee of the Palawan provincial government.  

Based on the CCTV footages obtained by authorities, Del Rosario was the one who shot and killed Magcamit moments after flagging down his red Toyota Innova along national highway in Barangay Malinao in the town of Narra, Palawan.

Del Rosario immediately fled the scene with another male suspect on a motorcycle.

Authorities are still on a manhunt for Del Rosarios’ cohort.

Magcamit is the 53rd lawyer killed during the administration of President Rodrigo Duterte and the third this month.
