DEPARTMENT of Agriculture (DA) Secretary William Dar bared that agriculture development is a monumental challenge that it cannot face alone and would need all the help it can get.
This was the statement of the DA chief that he shared with members of the League of Municipalities of the Philippines (LMP) during its general assembly held recently.
Dar said the department’s “OneDA Reform Agenda” contains four pillars: consolidation, modernization, industrialization and professionalization, together with 18 key strategies. He said the agenda is aimed at making the agriculture sector globally competitive, with the vision of having a food-secure and resilient sector teeming with empowered and prosperous farmers and fisherfolk.
“Agriculture development is a challenge too big for the DA to face alone. We need you in our advocacy to transform Philippine agriculture into a resilient, modern, industrialized and globally-competitive sector,” Dar said in his speech.
Recognizing their leadership and significant role in nation-building amid the protracted COVID-19 pandemic, Dar urged the local government units (LGUs) to remain strong partners of the “OneDA” family in boosting the productivity of their respective farming and fishing communities and increased incomes of small farmers and fisherfolk.
“Vision is what makes one act with passion and purpose. Vision provides us with a clear objective, and with consistency, it makes us progressive. In the current situation of our country, it is important to have a clear vision of what we want to achieve short- or long-term,” Secretary Dar explained.
