COVID-19 update: Slightly higher cases, lower recoveries

For the last day of April, the Department of Health (DOH) recorded an additional 8,748 new COVID-19 cases today, which is slightly higher than yesterday’s 8,276 total.

This brings the overall COVID-19 count in the country to 1,037,460.

Also, recoveries for today were recorded at 4,143 compared to yesterday’s 6,636 tally, with 89 deaths registered today.

In terms of the overall count of COVID-19 cases recorded in the country, 7.1 percent or 73,908 are active cases, 91.2 percent, or 946,318 have recovered, while 1.66 percent, or 17,234, have died.

Around 96.8 percent of the cases were either mild (95.1 percent) or asymptomatic (1.7 percent).

There were also 26 duplicates that were removed from the total case count, where 18 were tagged as recoveries.

Also, 46 cases that were previously identified as recoveries were reclassified as deaths after final validation.

All laboratories were operational on April 28, 2021 while five laboratories were not able to submit their data to the COVID-19 Document Repository System (CDRS).
