Close to 10,000 new COVID-19 cases recorded today

The number of new COVID-19 cases again broke the 9,000-plus mark, according to the latest bulletin from the Department of Health (DOH) released today.

In Case Bulletin #378, the numbers again logged dangerously close to 10,000, with a 9,595 single-day count of new COVID-19 cases today, bringing the total number of active cases to a 118,122 total.

This brings the overall confirmed number of COVID-19 cases to 712,442.

Recoveries registered a 481 count, bringing total recoveries to 581,161, while 10 people were confirmed dead to up the total to 13,159 COVID-19 deaths.

Of all the cases, about 98.3 percent are either mild (95.1 percent) or asymptomatic (3.2 percent).

Active cases are treated at hospitals and other facilities, where the rise in COVID-19 cases means it will go to full capacity. This is why the DOH, together with the rest of the government, continues to call on the public to strictly follow minimum public health standards (MPHS) and to suspend non-essential travel and ensure strict adherence to existing safety protocols.

The public is called on to wear their masks properly, and to observe other preventive strategies, AT ALL TIMES and IN ALL SETTINGS—even at home—in order to help reduce transmission.

Moreover, the DOH urges all individuals experiencing symptoms of COVID-19 to immediately coordinate with their respective Barangay Health Emergency Response Teams (BHERTs) for appropriate management and referral for testing and isolation.

The DOH continues to emphasize that the number one objective right now is to ensure care is not hampered nor delayed for COVID and non-COVID patients.  To do this, hospitals should not get overwhelmed so everyone must act with extreme vigilance and help reduce transmission by consistently adhering to preventive measures, as well as following quarantine and isolation protocols.
