COVID-19 reproduction in NCR declining — OCTA Research

THE OCTA Research Group reported Wednesday that the reproduction number of COVID-19 cases in the National Capital Region (NCR) has decreased as of August 31, 2021.

In a tweet, OCTA researcher Dr. Guido David said that the average number of COVID-19 secondary infections in the region has lowered down to 1.43, comparatively lower than the recorded 1.56 reproduction rate last August 24, 2021.

The same figure further shows that the COVID-19 reproduction number has dropped in Quezon City from 1.47 to 1.27 and from 1.49 to 1.33 in Manila over the said period.

According to David, if this rate continues, Metro Manila may expect a decrease of positive cases to less than 1 in 3 weeks.

The reproduction number of COVID-19 cases pertains to the number of individuals infected by a single positive case.

Based on US nonprofit group Covid Act Now, the reference used by OCTA, COVID-19 cases are increasing exponentially if the recorded reproduction number is over 1.4. Meanwhile, if the data shows below 0.9 reproduction number, the infections are declining.
