THE Philippine National Police Health Service said 170 police officers have been added to the number of PNP personnel that tested positive of COVID-19, thus bringing the total of cases to 23,013 as of May 25, 2021.
However, there were also 99 recoveries added to the list, bringing the total number of police personnel who recovered from the disease to 21,399, and 1,550 are tagged as active cases, the PNP Health Service added.
Meanwhile, PNP Chief Police General Guillermo Lorenzo Eleazar said another policeman succumbed to COVID-19, which brings the total fatalities in the PNP to 64.
“The 64th PNP fatality is a 44-year-old policeman assigned in Zamboanga. He was tested positive on May 7, and was transferred to ICU on May 21 due to difficulty in breathing. On May 24, he was pronounced dead by his attending physician due to Respiratory Failure,” PGen. Eleazar said.
PGen. Eleazar also expressed his personal condolences to the family of the deceased policeman, and that the PNP is already coordinating with the policeman’s family for whatever assistance that can be extended.
“Patuloy ang ating pagmomonitor sa ating mga kasamahan na tinamaan ng virus at pagaabot ng tulong sa kanilang pamilya, bilang frontliners dobleng pag-iingat ang ating payo sa mga pulis na nasa labas at nagpapatrolya,” PGen. Eleazar added.
