Cop to be dismissed from service, 10 others to be demoted — PNP-IAS

THE Philippine National Police-Internal Affairs Service (PNP-IAS) recommended the dismissal from service of a police officer and the demotion of 10 others.

This is relation to the misencounter that happened between agents of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) and the District Special Operations Unit (DSOU) of the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) in February of last year along Commonwealth Avenue in Quezon City wherein three people reportedly died.

According to PNP-IAS inspector Atty. Alfegar Triambulo, the PNP-IAS already submitted last February 4 their recommendation against the policemen involved in the misencounter to the Discipline Law and Order Division of the Directorate for Personnel and Records Management.

Atty. Triambulo said that out of the 41 cops charged by the PDEA, only 11 were found to have committed violations, while one policeman, Police Cpl. Alvin Borja, was recommended to be dismissed from service.

It was reported that Borja was seen to have fired his gun that resulted in the death of a PDEA agent and their informer.

The 10 other officers were recommended to be meted a one-rank demotion for direct assault and oppression.

Meanwhile, 29 others were absolved of any wrongdoing since there was no proof of negligence in the performance of their duties.
