THE Commission on Elections (Comelec) continues with the implementation of its “Oplan Baklas” against erring candidates who continue to install campaign paraphernalia in restricted areas.
The Comelec, together with the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority, and with security provided by elements of the Manila Police District, scoured the streets of the City of Manila and removed all hanging and attached tarpaulins and posters in lamp posts and on trees.
Comelec Commissioner George Garcia clarified that based on the Temporary Restraining Order of the Supreme Court, that the poll body will not remove campaign materials placed in private properties.
However, the Garcia said they will ask the candidates to continue to respect the guidelines.
This includes securing the permission of the property owner before attaching or installing any poster or tarpaulin.
