Coast Guard Rescues Near-Drowning Victim in Batanes

A quick response from Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) personnel saved a man from a near-drowning incident at the Basco Old Port in Barangay San Antonio, Basco, Batanes.

Coast Guard Station (CGS) Batanes received the report and immediately dispatched a response team to the area.

At around 5:55 p.m., rescuers successfully assisted the victim and brought him back to shore. He was then taken to the CGS Batanes station for assessment.

The victim was found to be in safe and stable condition. He declined further medical assistance and was subsequently allowed to return home under the supervision of his family.

Initial information from authorities indicated that the victim was allegedly under the influence of alcohol at the time of the incident.

The PCG reminded the public to remain vigilant when engaging in activities in or near the water and to take necessary precautions to avoid untoward accidents.

The agency particularly warned the public against entering the water while under the influence of alcohol, which can impair judgment and coordination and increase the risk of drowning and other maritime-related incidents.
