CLARK FREEPORT —Officials of the state-run Clark International Airport Corp. (CIAC) on Wednesday said the new airfield ground lighting system (AGLS) at the Clark International Airport is now 81 percent complete.
CIAC management said the project costing P491,888,888.77 started on November 11, 2020 and will be completed on January 5, 2022.
The AGLS project will include the rehabilitation and upgrading of runway and taxiway lighting and signages, and the construction of a modern 300kVA powerhouse with isolating transformers and lightning surge arresters.
“As the pandemic cases decline, we anticipate the recovery of the airport’s profitability in a new normal setting soon (and) this new airfield lighting project is expected to improve Clark’s air traffic control system especially with the new passenger terminal building,” the management said.
They added that in spite of the considerable decrease in air travel brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic, the ground lighting system project is part of CIAC’s initiatives in conformity with the government’s master plan for the Clark airport.
The AGLS project is one of two major components of CIAC’s airport infrastructure expansion program whose funding was approved via the General Appropriations Act of 2020 under the account of the Bases Conversion and Development Authority, the CIAC’s parent company.
