Bulk of “duck blood” from China, seized in Manila

Up to fourteen boxes of duck blood from China were seized by the Veterinary Inspection Board-Special Enforcement Unit (VIB-SEU) of the Manila City government following an inspection conducted at a market in Manila.

According to Dr, Nick Santos, chief of the VIB, he was directly instructed by Manila Mayor Isko Moreno to made an inspection at Salgado Market after reports of unusual trade are occurring inside.

Duck blood was found in a stall during the actual inspection. The owner of the store will be facing complaint in violation of R.A. 10611 of the Food Safety Act of the Philippines.

Santos said the case against the owner is already being handled by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) and the Manila Business Permit Office (MBPO).

Meanwhile, 63 pieces of assorted canned goods were also confiscated at the “Lucky 29” store located in no. 525 Ilang-Ilang Street in Binondo, Manila.

Canned goods with labeled Chinese characters were also confiscated by authorities for which the owner failed to translated it to English, a clear violation of Republic Act 7394 or Consumers Act of the Phil., RA 10611 or Food Safety Act of the Phil.
