Three people were killed and eight were injured in separate road accidents in San Jose Del Monte and Meycauayan cities on Monday and Tuesday.
In San Jose Del Monte, a dump truck lost control and accidentally ran over a group of people, all Social Amelioration Program (SAP) beneficiaries who were supposed to take financial assistance from the city government, which resulted to the death of one of the beneficiaries and the driver itself while four more were injured on Tuesday morning.
Investigation showed that the incident occurred around 7:40 in the morning at the side building of the city hall of San Jose Del Monte along St. Ignacio Street in Barangay Poblacion while the victims were at the tent waiting to receive their SAP financial assistance.
Police said that two persons died in the incident identified as Herminio Gerona, 57, truck driver and one of the victims Annalyn Sumooc, 54.
It was learned that Gerona had a heart attack while driving the truck and lost control of the steering wheel and crashed into the victims.
The driver was pronounced dead on arrival in a hospital while victim Sumooc was fatally injured after sustaining multiple rib fracture and died later in the afternoon at the hospital.
Other injured were identified as Ronilo Navarro Jr., 31 years old, Mario dela Rosa, 58 years old; Mary Rose Eustaquio, 29 years old, and Cecila Beramo, 57 years old.
City Administrator Dennis Booth said that the truck, which was owned by the city government, was headed to the Motor Pool in Barangay Dulong Bayan when the accident occurred.
Booth said that City Mayor Arthur Robes announced that the city government will shoulder all the burial expenses as well as the hospitalization of the other injured victims.
Meanwhile in Meycauayan City, a cyclist’s body was split into two and died after being run over and dragged by a speeding AUV while four more were injured in Barangay Saluysoy on Monday morning.
The victim, who died on the spot, was identified as Tani Cruz, 40 years old, single and a resident of 659, Sulok Street, Barangay Saluysoy, Meycauayan City.
Other victims who sustained mild injuries were identified as Fernando Dela Cruz, 30 years old, of Barangay Lias, Marilao, Paul John Balba, 30 years old, jobless, and a resident of Arkong Bato, Valenzuela City, Jomar Serrano, 30 years old, of Barangay Bayugo, Meycauayan City and Mae Solera, 23 years old, of Barangay Salusoy.
The vehicle involved was a red Mitsubishi Adventure with Plate no. ZKX 667 and driven by Ildefonso Magkasi, married, and former village chief and a resident of 94 Villano St. Zamora, Meycauayan City, Bulacan.
He is now detained at the Meycauayan City Police Station.
