The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) has cleared the way for the PNOC Exploration Corporation (PNOC-EC) to begin emergency petroleum shipments, issuing a special permit through its Large Taxpayers Service (LTS) to stabilize the country’s dwindling energy supply.
This move serves as a critical component of the government’s activation of Executive Order No. 110, issued last week that placed the country under a State of National Energy Emergency to protect the transport, food, and industrial sectors.
Following PNOC-EC’s notification of its intent to launch immediate emergency measures, the BIR streamlined its documentary and procedural protocols to prevent any administrative bottlenecks at the port.
This cooperation marks a significant shift toward expedited processing, as both agencies are now finalizing a framework to bypass traditional delays for all subsequent fuel shipments under the “Unified Package” mandate.
Commissioner Charlito Martin Mendoza emphasized that the Bureau’s commitment to the whole-of-government response remains a priority, noting that the LTS will continue to provide a direct line for PNOC to ensure that current and future importations are processed with maximum urgency to safeguard national energy security.
