The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) has given taxpayers in areas affected by heavy rains from the southwest monsoon, or Habagat, additional time to file and pay certain tax obligations.
Under Revenue Memorandum Circular No. 89-2026, deadlines falling from August 10 to 16, 2026, for covered taxpayers have been moved to Monday, August 17.
The extension covers 58 BIR offices and units, including 53 regular Revenue District Offices (RDOs) and five Large Taxpayer Audit and Excise Divisions. It applies to specified tax filings, payments, remittances, registrations and required submissions made through e-Filing, e-Payment, eFPS and manual channels.
BIR Commissioner Charlito Martin Mendoza said the move is intended to ease the burden on taxpayers dealing with the effects of the prolonged rains.
The bureau also issued Bank Bulletin No. 2026-09, allowing Authorized Agent Banks to accept applicable tax returns and payments from taxpayers under the affected offices until August 17 without imposing the corresponding penalties.
The extension follows Memorandum Circular No. 123 issued by the Office of the President on August 9. The directive allowed work-from-home arrangements in government offices in Metro Manila and 15 provinces on August 10 due to continued heavy rainfall associated with the southwest monsoon.
The BIR urged taxpayers to review Revenue Memorandum Circular No. 89-2026 for the complete list of affected offices and the specific tax obligations covered by the deadline extension.
Taxpayers outside the covered areas, or those whose obligations are not included in the circular, should continue to follow their original statutory deadlines.
