THE Department of Justice (DOJ) axed a total of 18 personnel of the Bureau of Immigration (BI) for their supposed involvement in the highly controversial “pastillas” scheme.
The erring BI personnel were found administratively liable for grave misconduct, gross neglect of duty, and conduct prejudicial to the best interest of the service.
The BI personnel were found to have facilitated or allowed the facilitation of the arrival and/or departure of Chinese nationals without undergoing appropriate immigration formalities for a consideration, the DOJ said in a statement.
Ordered removed from service were the following personnel:

The so-called “pastillas” scheme is a form of bribery where immigration officials and personnel facilitate the entry of foreigners, particularly Chinese nationals, in exchange for a fee.
