DEFEATED 2016 vice-presidential candidate Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and presidential daughter Sara Duterte-Carpio are not about to clash against each other in the 2022 presidential elections as talks are reportedly underway between two of the most probable choices of the outgoing President Rodrigo Duterte.
In a virtual press conference initiated by a media group, lawyer Vic Rodriguez, in his capacity as lawyer and spokesperson of former Senator Marcos, said that his boss is not likely to go head-to-head against the daughter of the outgoing president and incumbent Davao City Mayor for the simple reason that their families are “very close.”
“It will not reach that point as the family of both Sara and Bongbong are tightly knit,” Rodriguez was quoted in a report published in the Daily Tribune.
Rodriguez, however, reiterated his earlier claim that Marcos Jr. is definitely running for the 2022 national elections. As to what position, Rodriguez said that Marcos Jr. would make the announcement himself, adding that they are still waiting to get a copy of the Supreme Court decision junking the former senator’s electoral protest against Vice President Leni Robredo.
The high tribunal, voting 15-0 opted to dismiss the five-year old protest.
