Warmer days ahead as Amihan nears end, says PAGASA

The country can expect warmer temperatures as the northeast monsoon, or amihan, is about to end, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).

During a briefing, PAGASA weather specialist Obet Badrina announced that the agency began issuing heat index readings on March 1 in anticipation of rising temperatures this summer.

Badrina noted that the northeast monsoon primarily affects Northern Luzon, bringing occasional rains to the Ilocos Region and the Cordillera Administrative Region. Meanwhile, the easterlies are expected to bring rainfall to Eastern Visayas, Caraga, and the Davao Region.

Currently, PAGASA is not monitoring any low-pressure areas within or outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility, and Badrina emphasized that typhoons are rare during March.

As of yesterday, temperatures reached 17.4°C in Baguio City, while Metro Manila recorded a range of 25°C to 32°C.
