Malacañang welcomes Iglesia Ni Cristo’s “National Rally for Peace,” Hopes for Unity and Clarity

Malacañang expressed optimism on Monday that the Iglesia Ni Cristo’s (INC) “National Rally for Peace” would help clarify pressing issues facing the country and foster unity among Filipinos.

In a statement, Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin emphasized the constitutional right to peaceful assembly, describing it as a fundamental freedom cherished by the Filipino people and upheld by the Marcos administration.

“We view today’s assemblies as part of the national conversation we should be having as a people to bring clarity and consensus on issues that face us all and affect our future,” Bersamin said.

The INC rally, set to take place in 13 locations nationwide, has already drawn participants, with people gathering at the Quirino Grandstand in Manila as early as Sunday evening. Bersamin expressed confidence that the event would be peaceful and meaningful.

“There’s no doubt that today’s events will be peaceful, orderly, and meaningful,” he stated in Filipino. “We are hopeful that the opinions expressed during the rally will help bring clarity to the challenges facing our nation and foster the unity we all aspire to achieve.”

Bersamin also assured the public that government agencies are prepared to provide support to ensure the success of the rally. He directed agencies involved in peace and order, traffic and transportation management, and emergency services to extend assistance when needed.

The INC announced that the rally aims to express support for President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.’s stance against the impeachment of Vice President Sara Duterte, despite their political differences.

Marcos earlier stated that impeaching Duterte would not benefit the country, a sentiment echoed by the Vice President, who welcomed the complaints as an opportunity to address the accusations.

“It’s okay that they filed an impeachment case because I’ll only be the one under investigation. My staff at the Office of the Vice President and the Department of Education will no longer be involved. This will allow me to finally respond to the accusations against me,” Duterte said.

The rally, organized by one of the country’s largest religious groups, is expected to draw significant attention and participation, with Malacañang hopeful it will contribute to national unity and a clearer understanding of the issues confronting the nation. (Photos from INC)
