OCD and World Bank launch “Panatag Pilipinas” campaign to boost disaster preparedness

IN response to the increasing frequency and severity of natural disasters, the Office of Civil Defense (OCD), in partnership with the World Bank (WB), is launching the Panatag Pilipinas campaign on Monday, November 25, 2024.

The campaign, which will be unveiled in Quezon City, aims to equip Filipinos with critical knowledge and skills to effectively respond during emergencies.

With the tagline “Alam ng Pinoy Ang Dapat Gawin Para Maging Ligtas sa Panahon ng Sakuna” and the hashtag #PanatagAngMayAlam, the initiative highlights the importance of being informed and proactive to protect lives and communities.

A Nationwide Push for Disaster Resilience

Panatag Pilipinas is designed to elevate public awareness of disaster and climate risks, encouraging a shift from reactive to proactive disaster management. Through a range of educational materials—including videos, audio clips, and engaging social media content—the campaign aims to foster a culture of preparedness and informed decision-making.

“This campaign is crucial for those who may be affected by natural hazards and calamities,” said Civil Defense Administrator Undersecretary Ariel Nepomuceno.

“The right and actionable information will guide our citizens during emergencies. As our tagline states, ‘Alam ng Pinoy Ang Dapat Gawin Para Maging Ligtas sa Panahon ng Sakuna,’ one of the best ways to ensure safety is by equipping ourselves with the right knowledge and information.”

High-Profile Launch Event

The launch will bring together key officials from the Department of National Defense, Department of Social Welfare and Development, Department of the Interior and Local Government, and the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology.

Adding star power to the event is campaign ambassador and actor Dingdong Dantes, whose involvement is expected to amplify the campaign’s reach and impact.

Undersecretary Nepomuceno expressed gratitude to the World Bank and other stakeholders for their continued support in disaster risk reduction and management (DRRM).

“We are grateful for this partnership with the World Bank and look forward to initiatives like Panatag Pilipinas that amplify our message, enhance our disaster preparedness, and advance our mission in DRRM,” he said.

Building a Safer Future

By addressing various disaster risks, Panatag Pilipinas aims to ensure that every Filipino knows how to respond during crises, reducing the potential for loss of life and property.

The campaign is seen as a significant step in building a more resilient and informed society.

With the launch of Panatag Pilipinas, the OCD and its partners reaffirm their commitment to fostering a culture of safety and preparedness, ensuring that no Filipino is left unprepared when disaster strikes.
