CAAP confirms Cessna plane crash in Davao Oriental

THE Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) confirmed that a Cessna-150 aircraft crashed in an area that is part of Barangay Don Martin Marundan in Mati, Davao Oriental this morning.

Based on information released by the CAAP this afternoon, the Cessna aircraft is owned by Mactan Aviation Tech Center, Inc.

The plane carried two passengers that include the pilot and flight instructor Capt. Manuel Nierra II and student pilot Jeremiah Agonia.

The two victims were brought to the Mati Provincial Hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

According to the CAAP, the plane, with registry number RP-C 9005 took off from Mati Airport at around 7:30 am but immediately encountered technical problems that caused it to crash one kilometer from the runway.

The CAAP Aircraft Accident Investigation and Inquiry Board is already conducting an investigation on the accident.
