THE Department of Health (DOH) reported that new COVID-19 infections today remained at the 18-thousand level as it rose slightly to 18,638 cases compared to yesterday’s 18,191 count based on the DOH COVID-19 Case Bulletin issued January 28, 2022.
This pushed the total number of COVID-19 infections in the country to the 3.5-million mark with 3,511,491 cases.
Active cases, on the other hand, went up to 231,658 cases today from yesterday’s 226,521. Active cases are patients undergoing treatment in government hospitals and temporary quarantine facilities.
Recoveries from COVID-19 today, however, dropped significantly to 13,106 cases from yesterday’s 22,014 count, pushing overall COVID-19 recoveries in the country to 3,226,032 cases.
COVID-19 fatalities also went down to 68 from yesterday’s 74 to bring the total COVID-19 deaths to 53,801.
Positivity rate today also went down to 34.6 percent from yesterday’s 35.2 percent with 61,013 people tested.
Also, 97.9 percent of the cases were mild and asymptomatic, the DOH bulletin noted.
A total of 594 duplicates were removed from the total case count, with 242 counted as recoveries and three are deaths.
There were also 22 cases tagged earlier as recoveries but were reclassified as deaths upon final validation.
All laboratories were operational on January 26, 2022, but four laboratories were not able to submit their data to the COVID-19 Document Repository System (CDRS). According to data in the last 14 days, the four laboratories contribute, on average, 0.8 percent of samples tested and 0.9 percent of positive individuals.
The agency continues to remind the public not to become complacent and continue to be vigilant against the threat of COVID-19 and make it a habit to follow the minimum public health standards and to always wear face masks, and also face shields whenever necessary, maintain physical distancing and washing of hands. The DOH also reiterates that the safety of the country is everyone’s responsibility, and that by helping each other, the country will overcome this COVID-19 pandemic.
