FORMER Philippine National Police (PNP) chief and retired Police General Debold Sinas has been appointed as an undersecretary at the Office of the President, Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea said on Saturday.
Sinas, who replaced his predecessor and another newly-appointed Malacañang undersecretary, Camilo Cascolan, served as the 25th PNP Chief for six months since November 2020 and later decided to retire on May 7, 2021.
Along his service as Metro Manila’s police chief, Sinas was hit with several criticisms from the public for allegedly breaching COVID-19 protocols as he was seen holding a mañanita celebration of his birthday in May 2020 and skipping health protocols during his visit in Oriental Mindoro.
Despite being a controversial executive, Sinas was defended by President Rodrigo Duterte and is now even provided a higher post in the latter’s office.
