Being a country with an archipelagic shape, local government units (LGUs) are continually challenged by the issue of electrification, or even the use of solar energy, or even becoming a smart town or city, especially in this age of digitalization.
However, technology leader ABB Philippines believes it can help power smart cities in the Philippines should LGUs embark on this ambitious initiative.
Speaking during a virtual press conference during the kick-off event of the 1st ABB Digital Summit, ABB Philippines Country Managing Director and Local Business Manager for Electrification Division Olivier Coquerel shared the different technologies the company has that can support smart cities.

“ABB has the technology to balance the power of a smart city that will, in turn, contribute to the comfort of its citizens and lessen noise and pollution. It will be a smart city that does not consume much electricity, and has more space for green zones like parks,” Coquerel said as he answered questions from media
Smart building technology is one of the key topics in the upcoming ABB Philippines Digital Summit, a four-day event that will start on July 26 and end on July 29.
“Digital technologies need to be simple. It needs to be accessible to people. It needs to be seamless so your daughter or mother would be able to benefit from it, without being an engineer or scientist,” explains Coquerel, who has headed ABB Philippines for the past three years.
The summit will bring together experts and industry leaders to talk about trends and opportunities in the area of electrification, solar, renewable energy and digitalization especially as the world recovers from the COVID-19 pandemic,
Other exciting topics to look forward to in the event are Mobility Solutions for Electricity Vehicles focusing on ABB E-mobility, ABB Power Quality Solutions, ABB High Efficiency Motors, Digital Automation Solutions for Renewables, among others.
The Summit is being held by ABB in partnership with the European Chamber of Commerce in the Philippines (ECCP), Energy Managers Professionals Association in the Philippines (EMPAP), Institute of Integrated Electrical Engineers of the Philippines (IIEE), Philippine Energy Efficiency Alliance (PE2) and Philippine Green Building Council (PGBC).
