50 villages in Bulacan submerged by heavy rains and hightide

Heavy rains brought by Southwest Monsoon enhanced by Typhoon Fabian and aggravated by high tide from Manila Bay have submerged by floodwaters at least 50 to 60 villages from estimated 10 towns in Bulacan province.

The Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (PDRRMO) of Bulacan has reported that Paombong town has 15 flooded barangays, 5 barangays in Guiguinto, 4 barangays in Marilao town, 5 barangays in Balagtas.

It was learned that Hagonoy and Calumpit town were the most affected towns that until now were below 3.5-ft of floodwater due of released water from Bustos Dam on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

At 6:00 o’clock of Saturday morning, Bustos Dam releases 84 cubic meters after its water elevation of 17 meters has reached to spilling level with 17.35 meters. Prior to this, the said dam on Thursday releases 28 cubic meters and twice of the same volume on Friday.

PDRRMO situation report showed that there was also reported landslide in Barangay Prenza 1 in Marilao town but no casualties and evacuees were reported.Meanwhile, Governor Daniel Fernando through the PDRRMO sent two army trucks for “Libreng Sakay” at the Municipality of Hagonoy and Calumpit.

The governor also ordered continuous monitoring of the submerged villages as well as the update situation of Typhoon Fabian.

It was learned that more villages in this province were also submerged by floodwaters because of nonstop heavy downpours brought about by the southwest monsoon and Typhoon Fabian and high tide from Manila Bay but has not reported yet to the PDRRMO.

Fernando since Thursday frequently visiting the PDRRMO’s Communication, Command and Control Center to personally monitor the water level of Angat, Bustos and Ipo Dams as well as the flood situation in the province.

The governor also alerted the PDRRMO’s Bulacan Rescue Team at the height of the continuous downpour of heavy rains. Meanwhile, Ipo Dam water elevation as of 6:00 am on Saturday is at 98.72 meters against its 101 meter spilling level while Angat Dam is at 185.89 meters far from its spilling level of 210 meters.
