The suspect is an 18-year-old identified by law enforcement authorities as Salvador Ramos, according to a report from Reuters.

The report said that before the mass shooting, Ramos his grandmother who survived the incident.

After shooting her grandmother, Ramos escaped in a car but crashed near the Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas where the suspect began shooting students.

Responding policemen managed to shoot Ramos dead. It is not yet clear as to the motive why Ramos committed the crime.

Meanwhile, US President Joe Biden appealed to fellow citizens to stand up and fight what he called the “politically powerful” US gun lobby, whom he pointed to as the reason why stricter laws on gun ownership control have yet to be passed.

Biden then asked that their flag be placed on half mast to signify the nation’s mourning about the incident.
