Police have killed two gun-for-hire suspects, who were involved in a slay-try of a prominent politician, in an encounter in Binan City, Laguna on Sunday morning.
In a report received by Police Brig. General Alexander Tagum, Director of the Highway Patrol Group of the Philippine National Police (PNP-HPG), HPG Special Operations Division –Task Force Limbas Chief Lt. Col. Joel Manuel Ana said the two men trying to assassinate a politician earlier this week, were gun downed by his team around 1 a.m. at a gasoline station in Manila South Road, Barangay San Antonio.
A follow-up operation was conducted by the task group with the coordination from the Regional Highway Patrol Unit led by Lt. Col. Samson Belmonte and Binan City Police Station to verify the said assassination attempt to a local government unit official.
Reports said that the suspects were traced thru series of surveillance and were located at a gasoline station of the said place, when approached, one of them pulled a gun tucked on his waist and immediately fired at the police.
The suspects fled and were chased by the police until both reached the Mamplasan SLEX Toll where the two exchanged gunfire and later killed.
A .45 caliber pistol and a caliber .38 revolver with ammunition were recovered from the crime scene. Numerous fake identification cards and plate numbers were also discovered at the suspects’ car.
It was learned that the two suspects, both ex-convicts and a gun for hire members operating in Southern Luzon, were responsible in failed assassination attempt to an unnamed Mayor in Laguna several days ago.
