An additional 5,979 new COVID-19 infections were added to the list to bring the overall total COVID-`19 cases to 1,149,925, according to the latest bulletin from the Department of Health (DOH) issued today, May 17, 2021.
Active cases, on the other hand, came around with 54,235, or about 4.7 percent of the overall total.
In terms of recoveries, 6,602 were added today for a 1,076,428 count.
Meanwhile, 72 individuals succumbed to the disease, to bring to 19,262 the number of COVID-19 fatalities.
There were 17 duplicates that were removed from the total case count, says the DOH. Of these, 11 are recoveries and one died.
Moreover, 31 cases that were previously tagged as recoveries were reclassified as deaths after final validation.
All laboratories were operational on May 15, 2021 while five failed to submit their data to the COVID-19 Document Repository System (CDRS).
Based on data in the last 14 days, the five non-reporting laboratories contribute, on average, 0.7 percent of samples tested and 1.0 percent of positive individuals.
