Three rebels  surrender in Central Luzon, turn over firearms to authorities

CAMP OLIVAS, City of San Fernando, Pampanga – Three former members of the communist terrorist group (CTG) surrendered to authorities in Nueva Ecija, Bulacan, and Tarlac, Police Regional Office 3 (PRO3) director Brig. Gen. Jean Fajardo announced on Sunday.

The surrendering individuals also turned over their firearms and reaffirmed their decision to abandon the armed struggle.

According to Fajardo, one of the surrenderees, identified as “Ka Glen/Berting,” a former vice squad leader of the SPARROW Unit under the Arcadio Peralta Command, voluntarily submitted himself to the 2nd Provincial Mobile Force Company of the Nueva Ecija Police Provincial Office (PMFC-NEPPO) in San Jose City, Nueva Ecija. He surrendered a homemade .38 caliber revolver and two live rounds.

Meanwhile, “Ka Louis,” a former member of the Bagong Hukbong Bayan (BHB) who operated in Bulacan, Pampanga, Zambales, and Bataan, yielded at the 1st PMFC headquarters at Camp Alejo S. Santos, Malolos City, Bulacan. He turned over a snub-nose .38 caliber revolver with two live rounds.

In Tarlac, “Ka Reniel,” a former rebel listed in the Periodic Status Report (PSR) since 2006 and a member of the KLG-TARZAM unit under Neptali Santos (alias Ka Atong), surrendered to the 2nd PMFC in Camiling, Tarlac. He also handed over a .38 caliber revolver and two live bullets.

Brig. Gen. Fajardo commended the former rebels’ decision to return to the fold of the law, citing it as a clear sign of the Philippine National Police’s (PNP) continued efforts to foster peace and reconciliation in the region.

“Each surrender is a step toward breaking the cycle of violence and rebuilding lives,” Fajardo said.

She added, “The PNP remains steadfast in encouraging former rebels to reintegrate into society and contribute to building a safer and more peaceful Philippines.”

Fajardo emphasized that these recent developments highlight the government’s ongoing commitment to peace-building efforts and providing former insurgents an opportunity to start anew.
