Sustain enhanced visibility to curb street crime ahead of holiday season, cops told

THE Philippine National Police (PNP) chief ordered all police units to maintain enhanced visibility and conduct anti-crime patrols with regularity to prevent street crimes

PNP chief Police General Guillermo Eleazar issued the directive as incidents of street crimes tend to increase especially during the holiday season.

We already expect criminal groups to become active now that more people are allowed to go out, and especially that Christmas time is fast approaching. We wish to assure the public that the PNP will not allow those behind these groups to conduct their criminal activities in our streets,” he added.

PGen Eleazar gave the order after two suspects were nabbed in Manila on Sunday for allegedly snatching a bag of a woman who was walking along Magsaysay Boulevard and Lacson Avenue in Barangay 420, Manila last Thursday.

The woman, who happens to be a chairman of Sangguniang Kabataan in Infanta, Quezon, was hurt in the incident when she was dragged along by the motorcycle-riding suspects as they grabbed her bag.

The suspects, on board a motorcycle, were nabbed last Sunday (October 31) by policemen in front of Manila North Cemetery after law enforcers noticed that they wore no crash helmet and their motorcycle did not bear a license plate.

PGen Eleazar commended the Manila police personnel for their swift action that led to the arrest of these lawless elements.

The victim’s bag was recovered by the police from the suspects, and a gun was also seized from them, presumably used in the conduct of their criminal activities, Eleazar said.

PGen Eleazar likewise reminded the public to exercise caution and always be aware of their surroundings when outdoors especially this holiday season.
