QCPD destroys over ₱6 Million worth of illegal firecrackers and pyrotechnics

THE Quezon City Police District (QCPD), under the leadership of PCOL Melecio Buslig, Jr., destroyed over ₱6 million worth of prohibited firecrackers and pyrotechnics during a simultaneous disposal activity held today at the QCPD headquarters in Camp Karingal, Sikatuna Village, Quezon City.

The operation was led by key officials, including PCOL Roman Arugay (ADDO), PCOL Joel Villanueva (CDDS), PLTCOL Edgar Batoon (OIC, DMFB), and PLTCOL Vicente Bumalay (OIC, DOD), and facilitated by personnel from the Explosive and Ordnance Division (EOD) and the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP).

Coordinated Operations

The destruction followed 55 successful operations carried out by the 16 police stations and various units under QCPD. These efforts resulted in the confiscation of ₱657,282 worth of illegal firecrackers and pyrotechnics, reinforcing the QCPD’s intensified campaign to ensure public safety during the holiday season.

Among the seized items were a variety of prohibited firecrackers, including:

Piccolo, Poppop, Five Star, Pla-Pla, Giant Bawang, Giant Whistle Bomb, Atomic Bomb (Super Lolo)

Mother Rockets (Boga), Small Judas Belt, Kwitis, fountains, Leopard King Pacquiao, Kingkong, Sputnik Gold

These items were confiscated for violating Republic Act 7183, which regulates the sale, manufacture, distribution, and use of firecrackers and pyrotechnic devices, as well as Ordinance No. SP-2618, S-2017, which prohibits the use of firecrackers in public places within Quezon City.

“This activity reflects the dedication of our police stations and units, in collaboration with various agencies like the Bureau of Fire Protection, and with the strong support of the Quezon City government under our esteemed Mayor, Hon. Josefina ‘Joy’ Belmonte,” said PCOL Buslig, Jr.

He also acknowledged the significant contributions of force multipliers and other stakeholders who worked alongside the QCPD to prevent major injuries caused by illegal fireworks during the festive season.

The successful operation underscores the QCPD’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding the community and maintaining peace and order throughout the city.
