IT seems for Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Gen. Guillermo Eleazar, politics is farthest from his mind.
Eleazar said in a televised interview that he is already receiving calls from prominent political leaders asking him to run in next year’s general elections.
However, the country’s top cop is not interested in treading the same path in politics his predecessors like Senators Ping Lacson and Ronald dela Rosa took after their tour of duty as PNP chief.
As his 56th birthday approaches, Eleazar said he’d rather retire upon reaching the PNP’s mandatory age of retirement.
“Sa ngayon po I don’t want to be distracted kasi ngayon po nakukulayan yung trabahong dati ko pa naman ginagawa. I don’t want to be distracted and entertain these things,” Eleazar was quoted during a televised interview.
“Ang hangad ko lang pagkatapos ng aking trabaho is makapagpahinga at makasama ang aking pamilya,” added Eleazar, who told political personalities egging to see him run for public office to just “help in your own little way.”
“Nagpapasalamat ako sa kanila pero tulungan ninyo po kami in your own little way para magtagumpay ang pulis,” averred Eleazar, who was bypassed thrice before he was finally named the country’s top cop, replacing Ret. Gen. Debold Sinas.
