MALACAÑANG has yet to discuss proposals for the restriction of caroling during the Christmas season amid the pandemic, says Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque.
At the Laging Handa public briefing, Roque however assured the public that the government’s COVID-19 task force will surely take it up in its future meetings.
“Hindi pa po iyan napagpulungan at napagusapan sa IATF. Pero I am sure po ma-aagenda iyan sa mga susunod na meeting ng IATF,” Roque said.
Governor Manuel Mamba of Cagayan province earlier asked the national government to impose a ban on street caroling to curb the spread of the virus.
He said the local government could issue an ordinance, but it would be more effective if it would come from the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF), the government’s policy-making body on COVID-19 response.
“At least they know that there is a medical and scientific basis of what we are trying to ask,” Mamba said.
The Philippines has so far reported 389,725 COVID-19 cases, with 7,409 deaths.
