New COVID-19 infections remain at 3k level for the second straight day with 3,651 cases

THE Department of Health (DOH) logged 3,651 new cases today, slightly up from yesterday’s 3,574 based on the DOH COVID-19 Case Bulletin issued today, February 9, 2022.

This is the second straight day that new COVID-19 cases were at the 3k level.

This brings the overall number of COVID-19 infections in the country to 3,623,176 cases.

Active cases, on the other hand, broke the 100k barrier with 96,326 cases today from yesterday’s 105,550. Active cases are patients undergoing treatment in government hospitals and temporary quarantine facilities.

Recoveries from COVID-19 today, however, got lower with only 12,834 cases from yesterday’s 14,644 count, pushing overall COVID-19 recoveries in the country to 3,472,160 cases.

Meanwhile, COVID-19 fatalities today went slightly lower to 69 from yesterday’s 83 to put total COVID-19 deaths to a 54,690 total.

Positivity rate today was slightly up at 16.5 percent from yesterday’s 16.3 percent with 29,970 people tested.

Also, 95.0 percent of the cases were mild and asymptomatic, the DOH bulletin noted.

A total of 105 duplicates were removed from the total case count, with 86 counted as recoveries.

Also, three cases were found to have tested negative and were removed from the total case count, and one is a recovery.

There were also 49 cases tagged earlier as recoveries but were reclassified as deaths upon final validation.

All laboratories were operational on February 7, 2022, but three laboratories were not able to submit their data to the COVID-19 Document Repository System (CDRS). According to data in the last 14 days, the three laboratories contribute, on average, 0.8 percent of samples tested and 0.9 percent of positive individuals.

The agency continues to remind the public not to become complacent and continue to be vigilant against the threat of COVID-19 and make it a habit to follow the minimum public health standards and to always wear face masks, and also face shields whenever necessary, maintain physical distancing and washing of hands. The DOH also reiterates that the safety of the country is everyone’s responsibility, and that by helping each other, the country will overcome this COVID-19 pandemic.
