THE Department of Health (DOH) recorded a total of 8,167 new COVID-19 cases today, slightly lower than yesterday’s 8,735 total, according to the latest DOH COVID-19 Case Bulletin issued today, August 2, 2021.
This brings the total number of COVID-19 infections in the country past the 1.6-million mark at 1,605,762, while active cases also slid slightly to 62,615 from yesterday’s 63,646 count. Active cases or patients are those undergoing treatment in government hospitals and temporary quarantine facilities.
A total of 77 COVID-19 deaths were registered today, lower than yesterday’s 127 total. The total number of COVID-19 fatalities is now at 28,093.
The DOH also logged 9.095 new recoveries from the COVID-19 disease today, almost double of the 5,930 recoveries recorded yesterday.
Currently, there are now 1,515,054 individuals listed as total recoveries.
Meanwhile, positivity rate is at 15.7 percent with 50,601 people who were tested.
Majority, or 95.2 percent of the cases, are mild and asymptomatic.
A total of 94 duplicates were removed from the total case count, of which 20 were recoveries.
Aside from that, there were also 19 cases earlier tagged as recoveries have been validated to be active cases, while 29 cases earlier tagged as recoveries were reclassified as deaths upon final validation.
One laboratory was not operational on July 31, 2021 while three laboratories were not able to submit its data to the COVID-19 Document Repository System (CDRS). Based on data in the last 14 days, the one non-operational and three non-reporting laboratories contributed, on average, 1.5 percent of samples tested and 1.0 percent of positive individuals.
The DOH also continues to remind the public to strictly observe the Minimum Public Health Standards to ensure the safe recovery of our country. The moment any symptoms of COVID-19 are experienced, coordinate immediately with the BHERTs (Barangay Health Emergency Response Teams) or with the One COVID Referral Center.
The agency reiterates that the safety of the country is everyone’s responsibility, and that by helping each other, the country will overcome this COVID-19 pandemic.
