Lhuillier, San Marino Consulate, LINKS Philippines Open 30th Hooked on Books Library in Manila

A new milestone in community-based education was reached in Manila as Jean Henri Lhuillier, representing the Consulate General of the Republic of San Marino to the Philippines, together with non-profit organization LINKS Philippines, inaugurated the JHL-RSM Library at Graciano Lopez Jaena Elementary School in Sampaloc. The facility marks the 30th library established under the Hooked on Books literacy program and is expected to provide hundreds of young learners with greater access to reading materials and educational resources.

The JHL-RSM Library is a concrete symbol of the shared dedication between the business tycoon, the European consulate, and their non-profit educational partners. By expanding the Hooked on Books network to thirty locations, the collaboration intends to open up more doors to foundational knowledge and socioeconomic opportunities for Filipino children. This specific campus upgrade introduces a colorful, vibrant, and interactive learning environment engineered to nurture curiosity, boost creativity, stimulate critical thinking, and instill a deeper lifelong appreciation for the transformative power of literature.

“We believe that education remains one of the most powerful investments we can make for the next generation. This library is more than just a milestone — it is about creating opportunities to transform lives through the power of reading. When we give children access to knowledge, imagination, and a safe space to learn, we give them the confidence to dream bigger and create a better future,” according to Jean Henri Lhuillier, Honorary Consul of the Republic of San Marino to the Philippines.

Lhuillier has consistently used his diplomatic and corporate influence to champion grassroots initiatives bridging modern education, culture, and localized community development. Through strategic institutional partnerships like this library rollout, he continues to heavily support nationwide efforts that expand basic learning opportunities while simultaneously fostering greater cultural awareness and global perspectives among young Filipinos.

The grand launching event brought together various high-profile stakeholders from both the public education sector and different private organizations, all united by a single vision of advancing literacy across the country. This educational initiative was also made possible through the administrative support of the City Government of Manila under the leadership of Manila City Mayor Hon. Francisco Isko Moreno Domagoso. Several key officials were present at the ribbon-cutting ceremony to show their commitment, including the President of LINKS Philippines Maria Consuelo Doble, Manila City Schools Division Superintendent Dr. Sheryll T. Gayola, and Graciano Lopez Jaena Elementary School Principal Jinabelle Prieto. Their combined presence underscores the massive collective effort required to sustain the program and broaden its social impact across more public schools.

The facility was completely brought to life through the physical dedication of Cebuana Lhuillier employee-volunteers who worked hand-in-hand with corporate partners. Notable contributions from brands like Boysen, Tosot, Ilaw Atbp., Bookmark, UP GEOP, and Archispace Design Inc. ensured the library’s successful completion. Each entity played a vital role in shaping the library from its structural design and interior engineering to creating a highly conducive space where curiosity and a love of learning can truly flourish.
