THE Department of Health (DOH) today reported that there are now five regions in the country that are already under critical risk classification for COVID-19.

During the Laging Handa public briefing, DOH Spokesperson and Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire said the regions include the National Capital Region (NCR), Calabarzon (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, and Quezon), Cagayan Valley, Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR), and Central Luzon.

All regions in the country are now under high-risk risk classification. There are five areas in the country that are already critical in terms of case risk classification. These are NCR (National Capital Region), Region 4A, Region 2, CAR, and Region 3,” according to Vergeire.

Meanwhile, there are some more regions seen to record an increase in the two-week growth rate for new COVID-19 cases.

Vergeire said the NCR posted an average of 17,124 new COVID-19 daily cases for the past week.

This is more than double the 6,500 average number of cases from the previous week.

The region also has 149,000 active COVID-19 infection, almost half of the overall total of active cases in the country.

If this trend continues, Vergeire said the Omicron variant might replace the Delta variant as the most dominant variant of the SARS-CoV-2 virus in the country.
