MANILA — Former Cebu City Mayor Michael “Mike” Rama has reaffirmed his claim to the mayoralty, insisting that the dismissal order against him is not final.
Speaking to members of the media at the Manila Marriott Hotel on Tuesday, Rama addressed the ongoing tensions at Cebu City Hall, which have been exacerbated by the recent arrest of his city administrator.
While withholding specific details, Rama emphasized that he remains the city’s legitimate mayor until a final decision is reached.
“He is a fake mayor, he should step down!” Rama said, referring to Acting Mayor Raymond Alvin Garcia. “Tapos na yung suspension ko. I am still the mayor.”
Rama added that he is currently in Manila to handle urgent matters, though he declined to specify when he plans to return to Cebu, calling his timeline a “secret.”
The dismissal order against Rama is linked to allegations of irregularities within the Cebu City government. The political dispute has escalated, with tensions mounting among city officials following the arrest of Rama’s administrator.
Adding complexity to the situation, the Supreme Court issued a temporary restraining order (TRO) on October 22, 2024, halting Rama’s reelection disqualification case. This development has further fueled Rama’s assertion that he remains the rightful mayor of Cebu City.
The controversy continues to roil Cebu City Hall, with political rivals and supporters of Rama awaiting clarity on the unfolding legal and administrative battle. (With reports from Lhai M. Gardoce)
