ABOUT 1.52 percent or an estimated 15,200 individuals for every 1 million cases of COVID-19 in the country die due to virus infection.
The numbers are based on the COVID-19 Cumulative Case Fatality Rate as of February 21.
According to Department of Health (DOH) Spokesperson and Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire, it showed that for every 1 million anti-COVID-19 vaccines administered, around 0.03 have died in relation to the vaccine, or three people die for every 100 million doses of COVID-19 vaccine administered.
This is because of the so-called adverse event following immunization (AEFI) or experiencing of not so ideal symptoms, sickness or abnormal laboratory results following the administration of the vaccine in some individuals.
Based on data, Vergeire said that it is clear that many will die of COVID-19 compared to the vaccines’ effects.
However, the DOH clarified that not all AEFI is due to the vaccine like dizziness or vomiting after immunization, but it turned out that the reason was food poisoning.
“It can be said that nausea caused the AEFI and not because of the vaccine,” explains Vergeire.
Vergeire said a serious AEFI results to death, hospitalization, disability or incapacity and congenital anomalies or birth defects.
Vergeire emphasized that this rarely happens, or about 30 for every one million doses of vaccines administered to individuals.
